Choose your attitude?

Maybe it’s
the outlook on life
that’s the issue…

Thoughts on life...

One of my granddaughters was visiting for a few days. She speaks very softly and many times I couldn’t understand her very well. I told her that I really would appreciate her speaking a little louder.
I explained that I have played the drums and done other things in my life that might make it harder for me to hear some soft sounds.
But on the other hand, she didn’t seem to hear me when I asked her to help out with some chores.

A few days later, I was visiting the kids at their house. Another younger granddaughter was sitting on the couch, all wrapped up in a blanket, as she was getting over a bout with pneumonia.
She looked up at me and was excited and said she wanted to tell me something. I looked over at her and asked, “What is it?”
She was silent for a second and then grinned and explained, “I forgot!”
As we laughed I realized how funny that can be at her age.

As we get older we are constantly reminded that if we forget something we planned to say, or wonder what we were getting from another room - that we might have some dreadful memory problem.
But maybe some types of hearing problems… and some kinds of memory loss… are just a symptom of childhood!

Maybe there really is a “second childhood” as you grow older!
Not senility or the attempt to dehumanize older people.
But a second chance to look at the world through young eyes. Through a fresh lens. Through a feeling of wonder.

Maybe it’s more of an attitude issue.
And maybe we now have the wisdom to choose.

So maybe we should just laugh more, like kids do.

That’s the conclusion I'm choosing, anyways!
